The peak to be reached: higher still

According to legend, Monte Baranci takes its name from a giant whose spirit lives on in the mountain. This mountain is now above all a destination for families and hikers. There are many attractions among the flower meadows, such as the new village of the gnomes, the longest toboggan run in South Tyrol, the Fun Bob (not just for kids!), the small lakes where you can paddle, and much more. There is a great choice of hikes between here and the imposing Monte Baranci.

The name of this mountain, which means the garden of bulls, is based on fact - bulls once grazed here in the summer. Today the "Monte degli alpeggi" (the Mountain of Pastures), as it is also called, is  the hiking paradise par excellence, in a wonderful setting with a view of the Three Peaks. If you are looking for the ideal starting point for your hikes in the meadows and mountain bike tours in the Sesto Dolomites, well, here it is.

Orto del Toro

What a stunning view! The landscape is next to none! This is why Monte Elmo is a firm favourite among those who love to see the sun rise from behind the mountains. The ultimate in luxury, and that's not all: the world of the Hyperl, with a variety of walking trails, themed trails and hiking trails, are just waiting for you.

No, you're not imagining it. It's not even a mirage. There really are reindeer. On the Croda Rossa you can follow the traces of the only herd of reindeer in the Alps, as well as its paths rich in history. The mountain, in fact, was particularly important for the positions used in the First World War, which today can be reached by via ferrata, or discovered while walking in the open-air museum.

Attention, all sports enthusiasts: there's a great variety of hikes and two challenging single trails in the Dolomiti del Comelico in nearby Belluno; the only thing that's missing is you. It's a guaranteed challenge!

The mountain lakes: the gems of the Alps

A few swans float by and the sun is reflected in the turquoise-green water. Pedal boats glide along while some people relax doing the back stroke. Lake Dobbiaco is nestled between the Tre Cime Natural Park and the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Natural Park. It is loved not only by locals, but also by visitors from far and wide. Here you can appreciate the tranquility and a feeling of joyful abandon while swimming, pedal boating or wandering around the lake. Walking in Dobbiaco is now even more interesting with the new educational trail.

Iridescent turquoise, brilliant green verging on dark blue, clear emerald: few mountain lakes have as many shades of colour as what is known as the pearl of the Dolomites. When the sun is out, and even in the rain, the Braies Lake always radiates a special charm. The imposing peaks of the Dolomites, like the Croda del Becco, form the backdrop to this idyllic lake. Always much loved, it became famous when chosen as the setting for the TV series "One Step from Heaven" with Terence Hill. On board a nostalgic rowing boat, the lake can be seen from a completely different perspective. A walk around the lake is also well worth the while.

Around the lake: 1.5 h || 3.6 km
Distance from the hotel || 20 minutes by car* (16 km)

* At certain times during the summer, from July to September, the lake can only be reached by bus and a shuttle bus line. You are kindly asked not to come by car, in order to protect the ecosystem and sustainability. (Updated: 2018)

Like Lake Dobbiaco, Lake Landro is set in the wonderfully romantic Val di Landro. On the path to the lake you can see the famous Tre Cime in the distance. The peaks of the Cristallo mountain group stand proud and majestic on the lake. To make the most of the view, you can walk around the lake or rest on the beautiful pebble beach on the northern shore, or even go for a swim. Since the lake has no tributaries and only a few emissaries, it heats up more easily, and adults and children alike can relax and swim in a heavenly atmosphere.

Cycling tours: for occasional cyclists and for those who love challenging trails

44 km and 500 metres difference in altitude only downhill  - and off you go, riding your bike along the well-marked cycle path between Lienz and San Candido. There is much to see along the way and Lienz, the capital of East Tyrol, is ideal for a break and a stroll. To get back to base, just take a train. We recommend Versciaco as a starting point for outings; in fact there you will find not only a large free parking area (!), but also the PUNKA service centre - a bike rental and shop with the latest models of velocipede and also a refreshment point and bar.

Bike

105 km is the length of the entire Pusteria cycle path, which can also be followed in stages. The excellent cycle network covers all of the Alta Val Pusteria, from Rio di Pusteria to Lienz in East Tyrol.

Val Pusteria cycle path

120 km and 4,560 metres difference in altitude. It is not a race, but a euphoric way to enjoy mountain biking in Dobbiaco over one, two or three days. The route, with the motto "make your dream come true", was the idea of professional biker Roland Stauder. Participants are given a bracelet which is to be stamped at five checkpoints. It also involves a demanding uphill stretch and a single trail called "Demut".

Our hotel is one of the partners of the Stoneman experience.

Stoneman Trail

The cycle path that runs along the tracks of the ancient railway from Dobbiaco to Cortina is 30 km long. You will ride against the backdrop of the giants of the Dolomites!
